Yesterday he decided that we were going somewhere new. He took me to Tokyo's. Now, I will admit I have never been a big seafood person, fish, crab, shrimp etc. My seafood range was fish sticks(which im not sure is actually fish), tuna(from a can), and whatever smoked and fried fish my soccer team made once a season out at the fields, but i was open to trying new things.
I have been developing a liking for shrimp since we went to eat at his mom's house and she made this spicy shrimp with rice.
When we get there, and walk through the doors, I look around, not only to see what it looks like but to locate restrooms as well(that's important). They ask, table or Grill? I was confused but Yayo replied with Grill. I follow him over to our seats at this grill. I thought it was cool because i knew there was going to be fire and stuff going on when the food was made.
After giving our drink orders this couple comes in and sits across from us. A thinner white guy(yes i said white, its my blog i don't have to be politically correct if i don't want to) whose eyes seems to never focus in one place. Not to mention he came in with his hat on and didn't take it off once he was indoors. Maybe he didn't know better but i was always taught it was disrespectful to leave your hat on when you were indoors, especially at the table eating. This man was accompanied by his "big boned" wife and their baby(maybe 6-8 months old).
Now, your probably wondering, why would that be awkward? Well, when you have 2 strangers sitting on the other side of a grill who are facing you, and you don't know them? it gets awkward. I didn't even want to look up at all. I didn't want to make eye contact with these people for an array of reasons.
I don;t want to create some jealousy scene, "Why where you looking at her?" from their side of the table. "Oh I saw you looking at him." from my side of the table. I wasn't going to create some clustermuck of ridiculousness. NO WAY! or "Why where you looking at him?" from my side. It just seemed like a problem waiting to erupt. Maybe I was being a little over cautious but I don't think so. I thought it was weird that we were all trying to avoid looking at each other and trying to not make eye contact.
So i sat angled towards Yayo, and talked with him, even at times I'm pretty sure he would have preferred silence. As i got my order of Spider Rolls, and California Rolls I was Excited. I know i like California Rolls, and the Spider Rolls were something new to try. Yayo had me try his Crunch Rolls and his Teriyaki (yes its spelled wrong..i think) steak looking thing.(it wasn't fish, but I'm not sure if it was steak, I kinda spaced when he ordered).
I have to say everything but the Spider Rolls, was delicious. They were not my thing i guess. Oh and i almost forgot. After getting my rolls and Yayo got his food, i attempted to just bite one of my rolls, not a good idea, as let it fall back onto my place it landed on the tiny pile of green stuff. Now, I don't know what its called, i just know if you want to clear your sinuses, or have a wish to never feel your face again you don't eat a lot or any of it. I however didn't realize it had landed on it until after i had tried to eat the Spider Roll again. My tongue started to burn, and felt like i have recently eaten pop rocks. NO FUN!!
But all in all, I liked the food, and i liked that Yayo took me for no real reason.<3
hopefully next time we go out, we don't get caught in that kind of awkward situation. :P
